Mobile OS Roundup!


Regardless of your mobile preference 2010 is going to be a very good year!  Most platforms are planning to release major OS updates sometime this year.

Keep in mind that this is not a comprehensive list of features but a summary of key changes or enhancements planned for each platform. In many cases this is pre-release information so the features are subject to change or may not be included in the final release software.

Android 2.2 “Froyo”:

iPhone OS4:

  • Multitasking (7 key services: background audio, voice-over IP, background location, push notifications, local notifications, task completion, fast app switching.)
  • Folders
  • Mail overhaul (unified inbox, fast inbox switching, organize by thread, open attachments with apps, Multiple exchange accounts.)
  • iBooks for Iphone and Ipod Touch (iBookstore, ebook reader, Buy once read anywhere, sync pages and bookmarks.)
  • Enterprise improvements (better data protection, mobile device management, wireless app distribution, Exchange Server 2010 & SSL VPN support. )
  • Game Center: social gaming network (Invite friends, Matchmaking, Leaderboards, Achievements similar in concept to Microsoft Xbox Live.)
  • iAd in application mobile advertising system 60/40 revenue split for developer
