National Do Not Call Registry

With the flood of political calls in the run-up to the mid-term elections, along with telemarketers, the National Do Not Call Registry (NDNCR) is bound to come to mind. If you are not familiar with the NDNCR, placement of your number on this list will stop most telemarketing calls. Unfortunately, the registry does not halt surveys, political solicitations or requests from charitable organizations.

Android fragmentation? Not a problem!

With all the recent speculation regarding the effect of fragmentation on the Google Android platform, it seems the majority of the Android user base are now on versions 2.1 or 2.2 of the OS.

The most recent data — collected during a two-week span ending Oct. 1 — from the official Android marketplace by Google shows that 73.8% of Android users are now running Eclair or Froyo. See chart with details after the break.

The Android market officially hits the 100,000 application mark.

A recent tweet from @AndroidDev acknowledged the 100K application milestone for the official Android Marketplace. Congratulations to Google, the dedicated Android devlopers and the enthusiastic Android Army user base this was a great team effort.

Nook for Android V2.3 and Nook Reader V1.5 update coming soon!

Nook has announced a pair of software updates coming in the near future. The first update expected later this week for the Android app to v2.3 will include several user-requested features.

SuperOneClick V1.5.1 released provides 1-click root/unroot for most Android handsets!

Senior Xda-developers member “CLShortFuse” has released V1.5.1 of his Android app SuperOneClick. The app provides a one-click root/unroot that works on most Android handsets / OS versions. (Download links after the break.)

Dropbox Beta V1.0.0.7 drops for Android!

There is a new beta version ( build 1.0.0.7) of the Android Dropbox app available for direct download from Dropbox. The Android Marketplace version is stuck at build 1.0.0.1. The beta application adds several requested features and bug fixes. (See added features and direct download links after the break.)

Angry Birds available for Android!

After a couple of iterations as a lite beta version, Rovios’ Angry Birds is available for Android as a free ad-supported download. A future update will include the option to purchase and opt out of the advertisements. (Download link after the break)
