Viber is a phone application that utilizes voice over IP (VOIP) protocols to enable you make free phone calls to other users that have Viber installed over 3G or Wifi similar to Skype. Until recently, Viber has been an iPhone exclusive but will be available soon for Android (currently in limited beta). Support for Blackberry has also been promised.

If the person you’re calling is not a Viber user, the call is placed using your regular phone service. Smartly the Viber app will know which if
any of your contacts are Viber users so you can connect the call through Viber instead of your regular phone service.

International calls connected through the Viber service are also free, so potentially, the service can provide a huge cost savings depending on your usage.

The service is currently free. You can sign up to be an Android Beta tester here.
