Motorola Triumph Hacks including ICS and Gingerbread ROMs

by George Heymann|@techeadlines

technology-headlines.com

We recently reviewed the Motorola Triumph a CDMA pre-paid phone which is being offered by Virgin Mobile. We generally liked the Triumph but were disappointed that the phone is currently being delivered with Android 2.2 Froyo installed with no official upgrade path announced as of this date.

Well we’ve come across a great resource “Motorola Triumph Hacks” that addresses many of the Triumphs shortcomings. The site features downloads for several of the more popular third party ROMS that add additional features and bug fixes as well as instructional videos that include step-by-step instructions to help even novice users enhance their Motorola Triumph experience.

Following one of the featured guides I’ve now upgraded my Triumph to Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread which made the phone noticeably more responsive. The only feature not enabled on the third party build that I installed that is HDMI, which was not a critical feature for me. (Video after the break)

Smartphone Briefs

By Chris Coleman|@PhoneKnack

AT&T is hitting the ground running in 2012, opening the year with two Windows Phones. Both the HTC Titan II and the Nokia Lumia 900 are hitting shelves on March 18th. The HTC Titan II can be yours for $199.99 on a new two-year contract. It features a whooping 4.7 inch screen, a 16megapixel camera, 1.5 GHz processor, and will run on AT&T’s LTE(4G) network. The Nokia Lumia 900 on the other hand will be only $99.99 but still gives the Titan II a run for it’s money. The Lumia has a slightly smaller 4.3 inch screen, with a 8megapixel camera on the back, and a 1.4 GHz processor, however, it has a larger battery compared to the Titan II. Like the Titan II, the Lumia is also compatible with AT&T’s LTE(4G) network.

This year is starting off very well for Microsoft and their Windows Phone line, look for them to continue to make a push in the smartphone market throughout the rest of this year

Preview: Motorola Launches Defy Mini and MOTOLUXE Android Phones

By Simon Drew
 www.best-mobile-contracts.co.uk

The Droid RAZR launched at the end of 2011 saw Motorola getting stuck into the mobile phone market, offering the first handset in several months to offer something comparable to the Galaxy S2, which was the biggest selling phone of the year. Now, less than a week into 2012, Motorola is announcing two new phones to join its Android range.

The MOTOLUXE and Defy Mini are not quite as high end or impressive as the RAZR but still have plenty to make them appealing handsets to many people. The MOTOLUXE has all of the style of phones like the RAZR, but will be available with some much more affordable mobile phone deals thanks to some streamlined hardware features.

It has a less powerful 800MHz processor, which may feel a bit behind the times for a phone running Android Gingerbread, but it still offers a decent amount of competence for running apps from Android Market and general web browsing. It also has a nice 4 inch screen with WVGA resolution which is pretty unusual for a phone of this price bracket.

Preview: Droid RAZR MAXX, Sony Xperia S, Samsung Attain 4G, LG Connect 4G

Smartphone Briefs

By Chris Coleman|@PhoneKnack

With all the excitement surrounding the new phones that were displayed at CES by various companies, the Droid RAZR MAXX easily got lost in the mix. For all those heavy smartphone users who are tired of their phone battery’s not being able to keep up with the heavy demands of constant usage, the RAZR MAXX is for you. Armed with a battery that allows for users to talk for over 21 hours on a single charge, this phone may be the savior for many.

The Droid RAZR MAXX has the same specs as the Droid RAZR, and is still incredibly thin measuring in at 8.99 mm. The Droid RAZR MAXX comes with 32 GB of total memory and can be yours for $299.99 on a new two-year contract with Verizon.

Sony has quietly introduced the Sony Xperia S to CES 2012 to showcase all of its beauty. The Xperia features a monster 4.3-inch screen but oddly enough the phone is very thin, similar to the Droid RAZR. There are three white dots that line up with the home, menu, and back button. The dots correspond as buttons for each function, making the actually icons unaccessible.
