Sprint set to bring Galaxy Nexus to the Now Network, Samsung to pull the wraps off of the Galaxy S III

The time is finally here, the Sprint version of Galaxy Nexus is now up for pre-order. The announcement came via Sprint’s Twitter page, revealing that the Nexus will be sold for $199.99 and would be coming to stores April 22nd. All signs had been leading to a tentative release by Sprint and now it is a reality.

With Sprint being the only major cellphone company that does not throttle unlimited data plans, will you be making the jump to the Sprint Network?

Timeriffic is a very useful, easy to set-up and manage Android utility that allows you to control mute, vibrate, brightness, wifi and airplane on/off on your schedule.

Ever since my days with the Palm Treo, where you could set a simple on/off schedule for the phone with a couple of clicks, I’ve wanted an easy to use utility that would allow me to control many of my phones settings on a schedule.

Facebook buys Instagram for $1 Billion, pledges to keep Instagram growing and independent.

Facebook bought Instagram for $1 billion dollars in cash and stock today. The acquisition was later confirmed in separate statements by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom.

Instagram is a wildly popular mobile photo sharing application that has enjoyed record growth from a reported 1 million users in January 2011 to an estimated 30 million users now.

The latest rumor making the rounds around the Internet is that Samsung is including a Super AMOLED Plus display which would allow the Galaxy S III to showcase its 4.65inch screen at 720p HD resolution. You may be wondering what in the world a smartphone 720p HD display even looks like, well here is a side by side comparison.

The difference between the two is very clear and quite stunning.

With that being said, we can most likely expect the Samsung Galaxy III to be hitting stores sometime in May as AsiaE has reported that carrier testing is currently underway.

There are now more than 100 million smartphone users in the United States, according to the latest comScore report.

But even as smartphone use increases, the devices are undergoing dramatic — and speedy —evolution. Here’s a look at several prominent mobile trends that are emerging:

Smartphones are featuring ever-faster processors, Dual-core processors once reserved for the latest super phones are now standard fare on many smartphones. By the end of 2012, manufacturers will need to include a quad-core processor to be considered a high-end mobile device.

Large, high-resolution touchscreens are also in high demand on the latest smartphones and tablets. Not long ago, a 4-inch screen on a smartphone was considered large; today, 4-inch-plus screens are fairly common, with a couple of models topping 5 inches and featuring high-resolution, 1280 x 800 pixel displays. Google Project Glass: Augmented reality glasses take the next step

Google has started a new page on Google Plus to share their vision of what its augmented reality glasses could be. They are soliciting suggestions from users on what they would like to see from Project Glass.

“We think technology should work for you—to be there when you need it and get out of your way when you don’t.

A group of us from Google[x] started Project Glass to build this kind of technology, one that helps you explore and share your world, putting you back in the moment. We’re sharing this information now because we want to start a conversation and learn from your valuable input. So we took a few design photos to show what this technology could look like and created a video to demonstrate what it might enable you to do.”

Dropbox has been one of our most used Android apps, it was selected as a must have Android app by us in the past.

Dropbox is a cloud based file storage, sharing and syncing service. It allows you to access your files stored within your virtual Dropbox from any other device (PC, Mac, Phone etc…) that has the software installed. Great way to share files across devices and platforms. I use this software daily to share files between various devices without the need to carry flash drives or disks.

Dropbox is now offering to expand your free storage up to 16GB. You can take advantage this offer by inviting your friends to Dropbox! For every friend who joins and installs Dropbox, they’ll give you both 500 MB of bonus space.

Nokia takes aim at Apple

Nokia is attempting to make a big splash in the US market and what better way to do that than to go after one of the top players in the game, Apple.

Nokia’s new ad campaign called Smartphone Beta Test, is a series of mock videos that showcases the developmental process of the iPhone. The aim of the campaign is to show the public that they are just part of beta testing while using an iPhone and they should head over to the nearest AT&T store and buy the new Nokia Lumia 900.

Self-sculpting sand

To test their algorithm, the researchers designed and built a system of 'smart pebbles' — cubes about 10 millimeters to an edge, with processors and magnets built in.

Imagine that you have a big box of sand in which you bury a tiny model of a footstool. A few seconds later, you reach into the box and pull out a full-size footstool: The sand has assembled itself into a large-scale replica of the model.

That may sound like a scene from a Harry Potter novel, but it’s the vision animating a research project at the Distributed Robotics Laboratory (DRL) at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. At the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation in May — the world’s premier robotics conference — DRL researchers will present a paper describing algorithms that could enable such “smart sand.” They also describe experiments in which they tested the algorithms on somewhat larger particles — cubes about 10 millimeters to an edge, with rudimentary microprocessors inside and very unusual magnets on four of their sides.
