Believe it: Smartphones about to get even smarter

There are now more than 100 million smartphone users in the United States, according to the latest comScore report.
But even as smartphone use increases, the devices are undergoing dramatic — and speedy —evolution. Here’s a look at several prominent mobile trends that are emerging:
- Smartphones are featuring ever-faster processors, Dual-core processors once reserved for the latest super phones are now standard fare on many smartphones. By the end of 2012, manufacturers will need to include a quad-core processor to be considered a high-end mobile device.
- Large, high-resolution touchscreens are also in high demand on the latest smartphones and tablets. Not long ago, a 4-inch screen on a smartphone was considered large; today, 4-inch-plus screens are fairly common, with a couple of models topping 5 inches and featuring high-resolution, 1280 x 800 pixel displays.
