Google Maps takes on new frontier, goes where no navigation has gone before: Indoors

Google recently updated its Android maps app to version 6.0.0, the updated version which is available today on the Android Market enables you to map some indoor locations including select airports, shopping malls and retail stores.

Initially Google has partnered with some of the largest retailers, airports and transit stations in the US and Japan including:

  • Mall of America, IKEA, The Home Depot, select Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, Daimaru, Taskashimaya and Mitsukoshi locations and more.
  • Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Narita International (NRT), among others.
  • JR and Tokyu Corporation

Google Maps recently updated to include live traffic information for 13 European countries

Earlier this week Google added live traffic information for 13 European countries to its excellent Google Maps app for Android, iOS and mobile browsers. The traffic information will now be available for Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain and Switzerland.

Android Google Maps Navigation (Beta) users will be able to utilize the data to optionally be routed around congested traffic areas.
