Opinion: The problem with Angry Birds Space for Android? It’s still Angry Birds.

by George Heymann |@techeadlines

technology-headlines.com

At the risk of offending Angry Birds fans, Rovio has long since jumped the shark in my estimation with installment after installment of  the Angry Birds franchise. The latest release of the hugely popular franchise Angry Birds Space has the birds chasing a giant claw through a wormhole after it kidnaps their eggs.

The birds find themselves floating in a galaxy surrounded by space pigs. If it sounds ridiculous, it’s only because it is! Angry Birds Space  features 60 interstellar levels on planets and in zero gravity. The game also offers slow-motion puzzles, new birds, new superpowers and zero gravity environments.

I must admit I didn’t play the latest installment long enough to experience all of the new gameplay elements. Although having to alter bird launch trajectories to factor for planet gravity or lack of gravity in space did add to the challenge.

Google introduces a new local search experience across your devices.

by George Heymann |@techeadlines

technology-headlines.com

Google has simplified sharing searches between devices by making those searches available under a new “Recent” icon on the Google Search screen. So next time you go to Google.com on your Android phone or iPhone your recent web searches will be available for users who have web history enabled and are logged into Google when doing their search.

It used to be a multi-step process to share information between my desktop browser and my mobile phone. Typically I would perform a search on my desktop browser then use chrome to phone to share the link to that information with my Android Smartphone.

By Chris Coleman|@PhoneKnack

With Mobile World Congress (MWC) rapidly approaching phone leaks abound, MWC is the perfect stage for companies to unveil their products. According to the latest unsubstantiated rumors the iPhone 5 is slightly taller and wider than the 4 and 4S. The front facing camera is also higher resolution on the iPhone 5.

Is Apple looking to shape-up the front facing camera game on smartphones? If these rumors are true, we are on the edge of our seats awaiting further details about the iPhone 5.

If you head on over to Nokia’s Facebook page you will see a contest to win a white Nokia Lumia 800. The game is simple, upon opening the page, you will have 60 seconds to catch a white tile by clicking on it. After catching the tile a score will be displayed and you will be asked to enter your info for a chance to win.

Verizon for Valentines day? “Samsung’d” again!

Smartphone Briefs

By Chris Coleman|@PhoneKnack

Starting February 13th through the 14th, Verizon is allowing users to tweet their most creative confessions with the hashtag #TweetHeart in order to win a free colored Droid RAZR. If you don’t like purple, simply give it to that special someone of yours. Until then, be on the lookout for the contest on Verizon Wireless’s official Twitter page.

PS. your partner may still like a romantic date even if you win the free phone.

For those who happened to miss the Samsung Galaxy Note Superbowl ad, the ad is simple no longer shall customers have to wait in long lines in order to buy a subpar phone such as iPhone, instead the Samsung Galaxy Note shall be your savior. It was a quirky and funny commercial, some may say it was a tad over the top, but the stage it was premiered on, sometimes over the top is better.
