comScore releases May 2011 US online video rankings

ComScore, a leader in measuring the digital world, has released data from the comScore Video Metrix service showing that 176 million US Internet users watched online video content in May for an average of 15.9 hours per viewer. The total US Internet audience engaged in more than 5.6 billion viewing sessions during the course of the month.

Latest comScore US market share report has Google and Apple gaining ground, everyone else down

The latest comScore report indicated that 74.6 million people in U.S. owned smartphones up 13 percent from the previous quarter ending in January 2011. Google Android held the number one position up 5.2 percent with a 36.4 percent market share. Apple captured the number 2 position from Rim up 1.3 percent to 26 percent share while RIM dropped into the number three position with a 25.7 market share, followed by Microsoft (6.7 percent) and Palm with (2.6 percent)

Microsoft previews “Windows 8” at Computex

Microsoft previewed the next version of Windows, codenamed “Windows 8” to hardware partners at Computex in Taipei, Taiwan today.

As part of the technical preview Mike Angiulo, Microsoft corporate vice president of Windows Planning, Hardware and PC Ecosystem, demonstrated how “Windows 8” is optimized for touch-centric hardware.

Microsoft previews next release of Windows Phone

Microsoft today previewed the next major release of Windows Phone, code-named “Mango”, through a series of media events around the world. “Mango” will deliver more than 500 new features to push the boundaries of the smartphone experience around communications, apps and the Internet.

Kaspersky predicts big increase in malware attacks on mobile internet devices

Internet security company and maker of antivirus software Kaspersky is warning that the total volume of malware attacks on mobile internet devices will at least double. “After analyzing vast numbers of IT threats during the first quarter of 2011, Kaspersky Lab’s experts identified a number of important trends,” said the company in a statement.

Google strenghthens its #1 smartphone platform position in US with 33 percent share according to comScore.

The latest comScore report released for the 3 month period ending February 11, 2011 indicates that the Android Smartphone platform grew 7 percentage points since November, strengthening its #1 position in US with 33 percent market share.

Google was followed by Rim with 28.9 percent, Apple was third with 25.2 percent, Microsoft was down 1.3 percent to 7.7 percent and Palm rounded out the top five with 2.8 percent of the US smartphone platform market share.

69.5 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the three months ending in February 2011, up 13 percent from the preceding three-month period according to comScore.

Nodo WP7 pre-update finally rolling out to T-Mobile HTC HD7

After several rumors and a couple of false starts the January, February, early March, WP7 “Nodo” pre-update has started rolling out to the T-Mobile HTC HD7. No word yet on when we will see the actual update for the Phone. Microsoft has botched these updates for WP7 to the point that I can no longer recommend the platform to readers.

Mini-fix prior to Nodo coming to Windows Phone 7

The French Windows Phone 7 site monsmartphone.net is reporting that Microsoft France has confirmed to them that a small fix will be issued for Windows phone 7 in the next few days to “ensure that future updates are installed correctly.”
