I wanted to share an interesting info graphic containing online security tips, and fun facts regarding security. The graphic was provided to us by Jim Borland of reversephonelookup.org.

As an example here is one of the tips, citing NASA guidelines, it is recommended that all passwords be at least eight characters, and contain a mix of four different types of characters. A safe password should include:

  1. UPPER CASE LETTERS
  2. lower case letters
  3. 1234567890 (numerals)
  4. !@#$%^* (special characters)

The info graphic in its entirety is available after the break.

by George Heymann|@techeadlines

Shush! Ringer Restorer by Public Object does one thing and does it very well. Once its activated Shush restores the ringer at a preset time and volume once you turn off the ringer using the volume button on your smartphone.

There are many situations we need to silence the ringer on our phones, work meetings, church, class or movies are good examples. I seldom remember to turn my phone off, I frequently forget to turn the ringer back on. This application fills that need and it does that in a very unobtrusive way.

10 words that describe my home internet service

By Christine Kane

internetserviceproviders.org

Boiling down the description of an internet connection to a single word means distilling thought and emotion to bare essences. It is much easier to convey negative feelings, which our language makes easy, with it’s plethora of interjections. Good feelings, on the other hand, are more difficult to express. Below are some examples of terse commentary as they apply to the nebulous world of internet connections.

RocketDock application launcher for Windows:

RocketDock is a program launcher that lets you organize your favorite applications by dropping their shortcuts onto a “dock”. The dock is hybrid floating launcher/task bar. The highly configurable and nicely animated dock presents a clean interface that is preferable to “hunting and clicking” desktop shortcuts or having to navigate through menus and sub-menus to launch an application.

If you work on a mac at all you’ll recognize the bar as it works similarly to the application launcher in OSX.

See how it works here:

“Snipping Tool” free and surprisingly versatile screen capture utility.

Wanted to share an accidental discovery I came across last night while looking for a quick way to do some quick screen captures on my home pc to post with a little preview story I was working on.

On my office mac this is quite simple Apple shift 3 for a full screen grab or Apple shift 4 for the rectangular marquee tool for the partial screen grabs.

On the pc this has always been a more laborious process, usually either resorting to using a paid

Thickbuttons: virtual keyboard replacement for Android

Thickbuttons is replacement virtual keyboard for the Android platform that is available for download from the Android Market. Thickbuttons uses a predictive text algorithm to anticipate what you are going to type next then re-sizes the appropriate keys. It works surprisingly well. It also has a couple of unanticipated but welcome features. Within the Thickbuttons settings menu you can select to include a contacts and sms dictionary so that proper names and your special sms shortcuts can be learned. It also has a ” growing dictionary” that learns new words typed and can optionally share the dictionary with other programs.
