Google hooks up Sprint with the Galaxy Nexus, Amazon offering Verizon Galaxy Nexus for $100

Smartphone Briefs

By Chris Coleman|@PhoneKnack

Google has pushed out a signup page for the upcoming Sprint Galaxy Nexus which leads us to believe that Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus is one step closer to being released. What we can tell you for sure is that unlike the Verizon version, the Sprint model will feature Google Wallet; which is a huge bonus for Sprint users. If you are a Sprint user with an available upgrade, or one coming up soon, we suggest you hold off, because the Galaxy Nexus is arguably one of the best phones out on the market.

Amazon is now offering the Galaxy Nexus for $100 to new customers. So if you have been thinking about making the switch to Verizon, now is the time. Amazon is offering current Verizon customers the Galaxy Nexus for $260. Take advantage of this deal as soon as possible, who knows how long it will last.

Electronics gifts don’t have to be budget-busters

by George Heymann

Technology-Headlines

Despite the downturn in the economy, early polling indicates that a majority of consumers — 52 percent — plan to spend the same or more for gifts this holiday season, according to a recent ICM Research report.

Last year, nearly a third of U.S. consumers’ holiday gift-spending budget went to consumer electronics.

I don’t know who the folks are that participated in the ICM poll, but most of my friends and associates have a more conservative budget this holiday season. Keeping in mind that many of us will need to spend less, I wanted to share my picks for hot tech gifts that won’t break the bank or your budget. Happy Holidays!

Android selected by 56 percent of new U.S. smartphone owners in the past 3 months according to Nielsen report.

More than half (56%) of new U.S. smartphone owners the past 3 months picked up an Android device according to Nielsen’s most recent survey. The preferences of “recent acquirers” is important because they are often a leading indicator of where the market is going.

Overall Android grew to 43 percent of all US smartphone subscribers followed by Apple iOS who remained steady at 28 percent overall. It will be interesting to see how these figures are affected by the launch of the new iPhone 4S/5 next month. As well as the expected introduction of the iPhone to the Sprint network.

The holiday season should prove to be very interesting indeed.

Phones for Seniors interested in the basics

by George Heymann

techeadlines@gmail.com

I started researching cell phone options for seniors after Arthur, my 81-year-old father-in-law, mentioned that he might be interested in buying his first cellular phone. Several other friends and co-workers mentioned that they too were looking to purchase a cell-phone for a senior in their lives, that prompted me to write this story.

Whose responsibility is It to protect Our E-wallets?

By: Michael Koploy

ERP Market Analyst, Software Advice

With announcements by Google, Amazon, Mastercard, Sprint, and the 2012 Olympics Committee in the last few days, everyone is talking about near field communication (NFC) payments. As we transition to these contactless phone payments, the burden of security will shift from card-issuing banks to a new set of players: software developers, retailers, and consumers. I have outlined what all four players have at stake and what they can do to assure security is a priority.

The article ends with a survey, asking who you think should be responsible for privacy.
