If you use your Android phone for navigation you are already familiar with its text-to-speech (TTS) capability. As good as Google Maps is for navigation, I’m not a fan of the robotic sounding voice that is part of the default ‘PICO TTS’ engine.
SVOX a Swiss company that specializes in speech synthesis for navigation systems built into BMW, VW, Chrysler, Ferrari, and many other cars is now bringing its voice solutions and text-to speech (TTS) expertise to the Android platform. The SVOX ‘Classic Text To Speech’ engine is a free download from the Android Market. Voices for SVOX are $2.99 and are available in 25 different languages many in both male and female versions. You can check out the voices by listening to samples on your phone within the SVOX app or by listening to the demos at their website @
