Barnes and Noble “very special announcement” reportedly a new tablet which is “significantly different” than the current Nook Color.

Barnes & Noble reportedly will be announcing a new tablet at its press event in New York Monday November 7, according to Jeffrey Trachtenberg in a WSJ report.

I’m curious to see what direction Barnes & Noble chooses for its Nook line of tablets and e-readers on the heals of Amazons complete revamp of its E-ink readers as well as the introduction of its first Android color tablet the Kindle Fire.

We will post an update following the press event Monday with details of the announcement.

Amazon working on a subscription model for books, possibly as part of Amazon Prime service, according to WSJ report.

Amazon is working on a new Netflix like subscription model for books that could allow users to check out digital books. Details are still sketchy, but according to the Wall Street Journal report customers would pay an annual fee to access a library of digital titles. This new digital service could possibly be added as part of the $79/year Amazon prime Service.

If this initiative comes to fruition it would add another substantial benefit to the Amazon Prime service which already includes free two day shipping and movie streaming for existing Amazon Prime customers.

If Amazon can convince publishers to get onboard with the proposal, it could give Amazon a leg up in the burgeoning Android tablet market.

A low cost Amazon Android tablet that includes both a subscription digital book and streaming movie service could emerge to be the first Android tablet to pose a real threat to the iPad dominance in the tablet market.

This debate has been ongoing since the dawn of video games, with several study results in direct contradiction of one another’s findings.

Personally, being a consumer of various video games — some of which are violent —  I believe this issue is a symptom of our societal tendency to shirk personal responsibility in favor of blaming media for anti-social behavior.
